      The Military Balance th Edition. Published annually by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, The Military Balance is an assessment of the military capabilities and defence economics of countries world-wide. The book is a region-by-region analysis of the major military and economic trends and developments. National Military Strategy (NMS). The NMS is required by 10 USC and produced by the Chairman, with input from the service chiefs and the combatant commanders. It describes the armed forces’ plan to achieve military objectives and provides strategic direction on how the joint force should align military ends, ways, means, and risks.
